- If I remember right, mtools wants to open /dev/hd* devices. After I
- installed the new 0.96 root disk, these devices had access rights only
- to user root, and group disk (rw-rw----). Make mtools setgid, and
- chown it to bin.disk. That should fix the problem. It did for me.
