- The 'tar' on 0.96c is a different matter. It is actually a linked
- version of 'pax'. It's not broken, but it does not do
- compression-related stuff, since those functions do not appear to be
- part of the posix-standard 'pax' implements.

- GNU tar *does* perform those functions. Versions 1.10 and later are not
- broken in any sense; they work fine.
