- 386/16 w/AMI bios (87' vintage) w/ 4 meg.
- Adaptec 1542b SCSI host adapter
- Paradise plus/16 VGA (Pro II soon I hope)
- 2 80 meg SCSI drives ID 0,1
- 1 60 meg SCSI tape (Archive) ID 5

-
- under dos/windows/ASPI the bus on/off times need to be altered via
- ASPI driver for stable operation. Under Linux ?????
-
-
- Scenario:
-
- With the tape drive disconnected the system will boot with either boot
- image. With the tape connected it will boot under 0.96c-1 boot image,
- but not with boot image in the SCSI directory on tsx-11 site (0.96c+).
- In either case the install script won't work to partition the
- disk. If I log in as root I can get efdisk to partition the disk but
- it won't save the drive info (cyl, head, sector), and when it restarts
- the system the info is lost and I can go no farther.
-
- Relevant messages:
-
- (trimmed)
-
- from 0.96c-1 boot:
-
- --stuff deleted--
-
- Host 0 is detected as Adaptec 1542
- Adaptec 15421 host adapter detected
- Detected SCSI disk at host 0: ID 0, lun 0
- " " " " 1 "
- " " tape " 5 "
- " " " " 5 "
- Already have detected maximum number of scsi tapes
- Unable to add drive at SCSI host Adaptec 1542, ID 5, lun 0
- Detected 2 disks, 0 tapes total
-
-
- from 0.96c+ boot:
-
- --stuff deleted--
-
- no Linux version listed
- no floppy detect message
- no socket init message
- only 1 "1542 detected" message
-
- --stuff deleted--
-
- hard disk I/O error
- dev 0301, block 1
- bread failed
- kernel panic ...
-
- Question:
-
- How do I get the updated fdisk (not efdisk ?) from the SCSI
- directory on tsx-11 onto the root disk, and for that matter how much
- good will it do ?? Why does it detect the tape drive twice, and does
- it matter ?? Is this just a small sampling of the frustration I'm in
- for ?? I already feel like a british car owner (is it really worth
- it), but I want to get Open Look working on my system real bad. :-)
