  12. Since I do not have my 386 version yet, and not too many people do, this
  13. FAQ will be more "notes" based until we can get the forum going on a more 
  14. technical side.  For now, this is the paraphrased version (my editing) of the
  15. press releases put out by the Mark Williams Company.

  17. Postings have associated me with the Mark Williams Company.  Although I 
  18. think it would be great to be a part of such a company, I am not associated
  19. with the Mark Williams Company other than being a satisfied customer that
  20. really likes the way they have delivered their product.  The FAQ is posted
  21. as a friendship service to my fellow usenet/bitnet users to enhance the use
  22. of the Coherent product for everybody.

  41. COHERENT 4.0 is the successor to COHERENT 3.2.  Coherent 4.0 capitalizes 
  42. on the 386 and 486 architecture, and Coherent 3.2 allows users to run 
  43. Coherent on the 286 architecture as well as 386 and 486 CPUs, but, is 
  44. limited to 64K memory segments.

  77. COHERENT 4.0  The entire distribution consists of 6 floppy disks and 
  78. installs in under 1 hour.

  80. COHERENT will run on machines with 1MB of RAM and 20MB hard disks
  81.  
  82. COHERENT 4.0 runs on 386 and 486 based IBM AT compatible computers. 8 bit SCSI
  83. host adapters from Adaptec, Seagate and Future Domain are supported, as are
  84. IDE, RLL, MFM, ESDI and Perstor hard disk controllers.  COHERENT 4.0 requires
  85. a minimum of 1 MB of RAM and will support systems with up to 64MB of RAM.  It
  86. works with monochrome, CGA, EGA, and VGA/SVGA displays.

  90. COHERENT 4.0's new features is a development system which produces System V 
  91. Intel BCS compliant COFF binaries that run on many other compliant PC UNIX 
  92. systems, such as The Santa Cruz Operation's (SCO) SCO UNIX System V/386 
  93. Version 3.2.2, a licensee of AT&T's System V UNIX.

  95. COHERENT 4.0's development tools include an optimizing C compiler, a new
  96. optimizing linker, and versions of lex, yacc, awk, make as well as termcap,
  97. terminfo and curses.

  99. COHERENT 4.0 also comes with a new 386 macro-assembler.  The assembler is 
  100. fully documented and supports conditional assembly, listings, and assembly 
  101. time variables.

  103. COHERENT 4.0 also contains versions of the traditional UNIX text processing
  104. utilities, nroff and troff, along with support for the LaserJet(PCL) and
  105. PostScript.

  107. COHERENT comes with UUCP, ckermit and kermit.

  109. COHERENT's administrative commands include several archiving utilities, 
  110. a Bourne shell, a Korn shell, System V style cron, virtual console
  111. support, on-line manual pages and many of the popular Berkeley utilities.
