  21. Right, 3.x can build 64k code + 64k data segments, 4.0 is a 32-bit
  22. flat address system. On a ISA bus system main memory is limited to
  23. 16MB because of the poor hardware design. Coherent 4.0 runs also
  24. on EISA bus, but not on MicroChannel. 4.0 comes without demand
  25. paging or virtual memory.

  44. 4.0 supports up to 32 serial ports.
  45. 4.0 supports virtual consoles with simultaneous color and mono sessions.
  46. 4.0 run 3.x and iBCS-compatible programs.
  47. 4.0 comes with pseudo terminal devices.
  48. 4.0 comes with 8-bit terminfo curses.
  49. 4.0 comes with a 386 *macro*-assembler.
  50. 4.0 supports large filesystems.
  51. 4.0 comes with enhanced DOS utilitys.
  52. 4.0 comes with a System V compatible cron.

  54. The disk I/O of 4.0 is much faster as with 3.x, because of a greatly
  55. enhanced system buffer cache. Fsck and cc runs more as twice as fast
  56. then with 3.x. Sorry, I can't give you exact time values, because
  57. I've only one system.
  58. This are the highlights, there is much more. I think everyone with
  59. a 386SX and 1MB memory at last should upgrade to 4.0. This is only
  60. my personal opinion.
