- The OS/2 Multimedia Extensions (MMPM/2) provide audio capabilities
- including digital audio capture & playback, as well as line audio
- channel control, volume, bass, etc.
-
- The digital audio interface is via either a string-based language
- or a message based protocol. Other devices, such as videodisc
- players, MIDI, etc are similarly controlled. Digital audio does
- require an adapter of some nature, supported by a driver compatible
- with the OS/2 MMPM/2 system. One such is the IBM M-Audio Adapter/A,
- as well as a variety of third-party boards with drivers underway.
- You can capture and replay in 11K, 22K, or 44K sample rates at
- 8 or 16 bit sample sizes. Depending on the adapter, of couse.
- Some support both PCM methods and ADPCM compression, such as the
- IBM M-Audio Adapter.
