- Hi! This is a problem about "falsifying" return-addresses via sendmail.
-
- We run SUNs, HPs, and a CDC (=MIPS/RISCOS) box, all running sendmail. We also
- run cc:Mail for our internal PC/Mac network.
-
- The problem is this: when someone sends mail to us, by default the cc:Mail
- server, a PC, gets it and re-routes it as required. However, if the user
- happens to be on a Unix box (not a PC/Mac user) then the address for return
- mail gets listed as:
-
- fbloggs@epsmtp.dep.sa.gov.au.AT.SADEP-HO
- ^ ^-----------^^----------^
- | | || |
- our PC domain junk!
-
- I noticed that HP allow you to define a macro DY with an enforced return
- address, so that the above would read
-
- fbloggs@dep.sa.gov.au
-
- if I did a "DYdep.sa.gov.au" in sendmail.cf.
-
- My question is this: is this generic to sendmail? How can I do this on SUNs and
- the CDC box also?
-
- I know the problem is best solved at the cc:Mail end which appears to be
- appending the "junk" stuff, but anything that works while we track down the
- real problem would be a help!
-
- And by the way, any clues from cc:Mail gurus would be much appreciated -- we're
- novices here!
