- In order to provide identical mail environment for our WorkStations'
- users we mount /usr/spool/mail from from our designated 'mailhost'.
- All SUN w/s by default see these host as sorta mail server and send
- their mail via this mailhost, no matter what their sendmail.cf says.
-
- When this mailhost is down , and SUN w/s users try to send
- mail, their mail vanish , dissapers in some black hole.
- To check things out I tried this:
-
- Killed sendmail daemon in mailhost.
- In so-called subsidiary sun w/s I sent mail 'mail -v user@host'
- and I saw the following message repeated forever:
-
- Trying to connect <mailhost ip address> ... connection refused
- .
- .
- .
- Trying to connect <mailhost ip address> ... connection refused
-
- over and over again.
- The mail never got delivered. It seems that SunOS 4.x by default
- see the nfs server of the /usr/spool/mail as mail server no matter
- what you put on .cf . What can be done to work around this problem with out
- having to retrieve some new version of sendmail and try to install
- it on our SUN w/s??
-
- Thanx for you all,
