  37. Someone pointed me to a program called deliver which is supposed to be
  38. able to do everything I want and lots more.  I downloaded a copy from
  39. UUNET but haven't yet found time to read the documentation.  The files
  40. came with a review by a few people and it said deliver was a very good
  41. program.

  50.                              WHAT IS DELIVER?

  53.   Deliver allows any user to write a shell script that processes all
  54.   incoming mail messages for that user.  The system administrator may
  55.   also install scripts that process all messages.
  56.   
  57.   The output of a script is a list of mail addresses, files and programs
  58.   that should receive the message.  It has access to each message as it
  59.   is processed, so the action can be content dependent.  The script may
  60.   also generate automatic replies, like the "vacation" program, or pass
  61.   along a modified version of the original message.

  63.   Deliver can be used to construct mail-based services (e.g. automatic
  64.   mailing list maintenance).  It can also be used to filter mail
  65.   automatically in prearranged ways (e.g. encryption and decryption,
  66.   tossing junk mail, or vacation notices).

  68.   Although deliver works best when installed set-user-id root, it can
  69.   perform many of its functions even when installed in the private bin
  70.   directory of a regular user.
