- Ok folks, every one asks for things in Filter for 2.4, but no one volunteers
- to work on them. Well, I do have something to say about this....
-
- Filter is 'dying' because no one wants to work on it and fix/enhance it.
- Thus everyone complains, and no one does. Fine, I can live with that.
- But, now someone comments that if we don't do it, they will take the
- time to 'write it over'.... Well, if you are going to take that time,
- why not enhance filter?
-
- What filter needs is people who want to use it, and are willing to work
- on it. The current members of the Elm Development Group, which are all
- volunteers, don't seem to have much interest in filter. There has been
- talk, at each release, of dropping filter entirely. Well, at 2.4, I must
- admit, some work was done on it, but apparently no where near enough.
-
- If the user community wants filter enhanced, then someone(s) from the user
- community is going to have to step forward and volunteer to do it. The
- current Elm group is having enough trouble just getting 2.4 out the door.
-
- Note: The Elm Development Group is, and always has been open to all.
- The only requirements I put on members is that they be willing/able
- to ftp or uucp new copies of the source as needed from dsinc, and to
- work on bugs as well as new features. Thats it.
-
- So, if you are willing to write it over, consider putting that effort
- into filter. If not, it will die, probably at 2.4. I don't see anyone
- considering it for the 3.0 rewrite.
-
- Soapbox mode off......
