  24. In common usage, I have always heard "penultimate"  utilized 
  25. to mean something like "super ultimate" or "ultimate plus". Obviously
  26. this was incorrect given Tom's knowledge of Latin. How in the world can
  27. Tom be a PERL wizard of penultimate magnitude (we`ll sandwich Larry
  28. in as the "Ultimate" using Tom's definition) and still know
  29. modern derivational Latin? Does the man sleep? What do these folks
  30. do in their spare time one wonders (indeed, how could they *possibly*
  31. have any spare time)? :-) :-) :-)

  33. Of course, "penultimate" in my intended usage has about as much meaning
  34. as "new improved super infinity" or "infinity to the infinite power",
  35. but that was my intention. :-) :-)

  37. I guess I could live with conceding that it might have some
  38. infinitesimal pointfulness (or be slightly less pointless than
  39. something else) in order to keep the name the "Penultimately 
  40. Pointless PERL Programming Problem".
