- Most Commonly used Languages
-
- I intend, time permitting, to familiarise myself with a number of
- programming languages in an effort to gain some part time employment. Of
- course I want to familiarize myself with those languages that are used the
- most in industry. I have a reasonable number of hours up programming in the
- procedural languages BASIC and Turing (Pascal like). I have had an
- introduction to non-procedural programming in general.
-
- Although this may be in a FAQ, I couldn't find it and so here goes.
- I would like to know to what extent different languages are used in
- different areas of the softare industry and what they are most commonly
- used for. I would also like to know of good references for a description
- of these languages. I prefer texts that have _detailed_ descriptions of the
- programming constructs rather than those which introduce constructs by
- example. Nethertheless, I do recognize the need for examples to show how the
- constructs can be used.
-
- Because this discussion may become more subjective than objective, please
- mail all beliefs/observations/insights directly to me. I will summarise the
- results in a couple of weeks time.
-
- Thanks,
-
