- As you may have heard, APDA (Apple's distribution channel for developer tools)
- is now shipping MCL v. 2.0 and the MCL v. 2.0 Update.
-
- Earlier this week APDA shipped copies of the MCL v. 2.0 Update to all customers
- who purchased MCL 2.0b1 or the MCL 2.0b1 Update. Update packages sent to U.S.
- addresses were sent via UPS; please allow 7-10 working days for delivery. If
- you expect to receive an update and haven't received it by the first week of
- August, contact APDA to verify that they sent you a copy at the correct address
- (see the end of this message for APDA's addresses and phone numbers).
-
-
-
- Here is the description of MCL 2.0 which will appear in the August 1992 APDA
- catalog:
-
- Macintosh Common Lisp v. 2.0
- Apple Computer, Inc.
-
- Macintosh Common Lisp v. 2.0 is an object-oriented dynamic language (OODL)
- fully integrated with the Macintosh. It includes an incremental Common Lisp
- compiler, a rich set of Lisp programming tools, and an extensive library of
- CLOS objects including Macintosh user interface objects. With Macintosh Common
- Lisp (MCL), creating complex interactive applications is easy. That makes MCL
- especially well-suited for rapid prototyping, custom development for business
- and education, scientific and engineering applications, and academic research.
-
-
- Features include:
- - A fast, incremental Common Lisp compiler, which compiles and executes
- individual expressions almost instantly and generates efficient native 680x0
- code.
- - Support for the Common Lisp Object System (CLOS), allowing you to write
- portable object-oriented code that can easily be moved between the Macintosh
- platform and other computer platforms.
- - Industry standard implementation of Common Lisp and CLOS as defined in Commo
- Lisp: The Language, Second Edition.
- - A sophisticated object-oriented error condition system which greatly enhance
- program robustness and ease of debugging.
- - A class library of high-level CLOS objects implementing Macintosh user
- interface features and as well as low-level interfaces to all System 7
- facilities.
- - Smart programmable tools for prototyping, programming, and debugging such as
- an interface toolkit, a source code stepper, a symbolic debugger, a dynamic
- object inspector, and a stack backtrace.
- - A fully programmable syntax-aware editor which can instantly access source
- code and documentation for any function, variable, or macro.
- - Automatic memory management which is handled incrementally by an ephemeral
- garbage collector.
- - A snapshot facility, which lets you save complete Lisp environments for quic
- restarts.
- - A foreign function interface, allowing Lisp programs to call functions
- created with MPW languages such as C, Pascal, and Assembler.
- - Full Lisp source code for many examples and utilities.
- - Supports creation of standalone, double-clickable Macintosh application usin
- less than 2 MB of disk space which can be run with 2MB or more of memory.
-
-
- Licensing Notes:
- - You may ship any quantity of applications created with Macintosh Common Lisp
- after submitting to Apple the object code distribution license included in the
- package with a one-time fee of $100 (or $10 for non-commercial use).
- - Site licensing is available for this product.
- [For more information on licensing, contact Apple's Software Licensing
- department, 408-974-4667, AppleLink: SW.LICENSE, Internet:
- SW.LICENSE@applelink.apple.com]
-
- System Requirements: A Macintosh computer with at least 4 MB of RAM and 6 MB
- of disk storage. Macintosh System Software v. 6.0.4 or later, or A/UX 3.0. A
- CD-ROM drive is useful but optional.
-

- CD-ROM (containing the full MCL system, online documentation, and lots of
- additional items of interest to Lisp users), two manuals, Getting Started with
- Macintosh Common Lisp and Macintosh Common Lisp 2.0 Reference, and a copy of
- Common Lisp: The Language, Second Edition by Guy Steele Jr. (Common Lisp: The
- Language not included with the Macintosh Common Lisp v. 2.0 Update).
