  25. the perpetual sore point between free forths and pay forths will not go
  26. away as long as free forths "outperform" pay forths.  I argue that
  27. the real (lasting?) solution to this problem is to use the free forths
  28. as a baseline for customer expectations.  Then as a forth vendor, you
  29. must provide some type of added value to make it worth spending money
  30. on your forth.

  32. look at what is happening in the C compiler world with advent of the
  33. GNU compiler suite.  the GNU compiler is the one to beat in terms
  34. of performance, code generation, portability, and support.  The
  35. forth world has been going throught that trauma for many years, we
  36. just didn't know it :-)

  38. to traumatize an already abused quote, stand on the shoulders of
  39. free forths not on their toes.  while you're at it, don't let them stand
  40. on your toes either...
