  18.   This paper deals with the dynamic regulation of the
  19.   level of replication in distributed systems, and leads to the introduction
  20.   of replication-heuristics therefore.
  21.   The question of which replica of an object should be referenced 
  22.   by operations when several copies are
  23.   provided at different remote sites in the net is also addressed.
  24.   Polling-algorithms performing
  25.   this choice will also be presented. Replication-heuristics and
  26.   polling-algorithms are an important research field in distributed,
  27.   replicating systems but not adequately treated yet. The purpose of 
  28.   this work is to present possible solutions for these two problems 
  29.   and to suggest how the
  30.   area should further be studied. As an important application of
  31.   replication-heuristics and polling-algorithms, a replicating file
  32.   transfer protocol (RFTP) is proposed.
