- don't rely on that. try downloading plain text files. granted, these
- can be hard to find other than, perhaps, file listings for the BBS.

- you won't see much difference, because their serial port speed is the
- bottleneck.

- and, as far as the 4:1 compression, don't count on it.... when I grab
- text files off of a BBS (V.32bis/V.42/V.42bis, serial port set at
- 38.4 on both ends, and a 16550AFN in both serial cards), I normally
- see around 2550 cps to 2800 cps.

- if you see V.42/V.42bis (or something along those lines....some modems
- don't really give you the details like others do) in your connect status
- message, you know it's there. if the other side isn't using V.42bis,
- neither are you..... :-)
