  19. There are two potential problems:
  20.  
  21. 1.  The combination of terminal emulation software and processor
  22. speed on your end slow down text as it renders to the screen and
  23. scrolls.
  24. 2.  The combination of BBS software and processor speed on the
  25. computer you are calling slow down text as it is pulled off the
  26. other machine's hard drive, possibly displayed on the other
  27. machine's console, and then sent over the modem to you.

  29. If your computer can't deal with text moving at that speed it will
  30. step in and use hardware flow control to slow down the incoming
  31. data.  If the other machine can't generate text for the output
  32. buffer as fast as the modem on the other end wants it, the modem on
  33. the other end is going to take whatever is in its buffer, make a
  34. packet and send it along, slowing down the process somewhat.

  36. You can 1) Buy a faster computer, 2) Buy your SYSOP a faster
  37. computer, 3) show the author of your SYSOP's favorite software how
  38. to write faster code, or 4) get a better terminal emulation
  39. package.
