- Correction: Some Telebit models *used* to have a secondary interface.
- I have a T2500, and I too was intrigued by the wiring diagram in the
- back of the manual for connecting a secondary DTE. So I went out and
- got three RS-232 connectors and some wire, and made a T-connector for
- my T2500 to split the modem connector out into primary and secondary
- DTEs. Well, I connected it and it didn't work. Checked the
- connections with a VOM, and everything was as described in the manual.
- So I called Telebit tech support. Apparently this feature had been
- removed from the "consumer"-grade modems -- since no one was using it
- and it was a way to trim a bit off the cost of making the modem -- but
- no one bothered to tell the folks who wrote the documentation.
-
- Needless to say, I was a bit peeved after spending $10 on serial
- connectors to discover that it had no chance of working, but I guess I
- should have expected that. The whole idea is a bit too good to be
- true.
-
- On a somewhat related note: Who will be the first modem maker to
- implement a TCP/IP interface for their modems? Design it like the FTP
- interface, with one port for data and one port for commands, and there
- will be no problems with in-band control sequences...
