  24. Sure:
  25.   1.  The modem works just fine.
  26.   2.  The instruction manual is VERY generic and does not include
  27.       FAX command set, the company phone number, or even the NAMES
  28.       of any companies!  
  29.   3.  The people at Midwest Micro are idiots and couldn't answer 
  30.       a technical question without first asking me the COLOR of 
  31.       the modem doc's cover.  (!)

  33. As far as I can tell the Infotel is AT LEAST as reliable as the
  34. Supra, and probably a little better.  It comes in a beige *PLASTIC*
  35. case with no internal RF shielding (but the FCC has approved the
  36. design), has a toggle switch in the back for power, and probably
  37. more LED's than you need.  It is, for all intents and purposes, the
  38. same modem as the Zoom.

  40. As with all modems that I have seen or used with the Rockwell
  41. chipset, it occasionally goofs up while handshaking with other
  42. modems of its class.  There is a page glued in the inside front
  43. cover of the instruction manual with alternate dial prefixes to
  44. limit the amount of handshaking that it does with certain modems.
  45. Once I applied these, I was able to connect to everything from
  46. Avatex 1200's to USR DST 16.8's over pretty noisy lines and lengthy
  47. propagation delays.

  49. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the first wave of Gateway Telepath
  50. modems and 10 being the high-end ZyXEL (sp?), I'd give the Infotel
  51. external about an 8 or 8.5!

  53. CAVEATS:  The modem speaker is a little too loud, even at L0!
