- But why would you ever want to drop to command mode after making

- If there is modern equipment at the remote end and it is set up
- properly, the speed matching can be done automatically by the
- remote modem. Or if it doesn't let the modem handle it, if it
- expects the highest possible speed first, any character you send
- at a lower speed will look like a break character and cause a
- speed switch. Unfortunately, the person placing the call usually
- doesn't have any control over what is at the other end...

- Just decide ahead of time whether you want to talk to the modem
- or the remote host. If you are interested in the remote, disable
- the modem escape sequence and don't worry about it any more.
