- A friend is considering using the COM20020 chip from
- SMC for a small LAN. Cost is an object, and interoperability
- (like TCP/IP) is _not_. So, the questions are:
-
- 1) Does anybody have experience with this chip? It _seems_ to do the
- job for him, but sometimes nasty gotchas surface later.
-
- 2) Is there a valid second source at the exact drop-in replacement
- level?
-
- 3) If no to (2), is there a comparable chip, perhaps requiring a
- PCB or software change?
-
- 4) Other suggestions? (aside from the DSP bit-boffing approach he
- is trying to replace)
-
- email to me, please, and I will forward. I sort of doubt others are
- all _that_ interested in ARCnet on toasters.
