- Hello everyone,
-
- I'm looking for information on database libraries with the following
- requirements:
-
- 1. Must be callable from C++ and C.
- 2. Must support the relational model; this implies that it must provide
- some relatively automatic tools to enforce relational integrity
- (like triggers).
- 3. Must support multiple users.
- 4. Must support transaction management.
- 5. Must support a data dictionary OR provide the tools necessary to
- create it.
- 6. Must run under MS-DOS/Windows.
- 7. Public domain or shareware preferred (8^), commercial products are
- OK as long as they don't move into the four-digit price tag...
-
- I would really like to find a package with all these characteristics and
- with a price that is not tied to the number of users that will be using the
- database manager. In other words, something like CodeBase which, to
- my knowledge, complies to 1, 3, 5 and 6 and is priced about $300.
- My guess is that anything based on the Client-Server model will be
- priced according to the number of clients, though. Any comments on
- why I should or should not choose to use a Client-Server based
- DBMS?
-
- Any takers? If there is a FAQ or a better place to post this, I would
- appreciate any pointers. I prefer e-mail answers; if I get enough
- response (say more that 5 messages), I'll post a summary. Thanks in
- advance and best regards.
