- A good reference for various compression techniques is "The Data
- Compression Book" by Mark Nelson, from M&T Books. The book includes
- chapters on Huffman, Lempel-Ziv, arithmetic coding, JPEG, and other
- methods. It also includes source code in the book and on IBM disk for
- each of the compression methods it describes. I believe it also
- includes test files of various formats to demonstrate the methods and
- provide benchmarks.
