  28. The reason for this is that the GIF standard for image encoding is
  29. not completely fixed, i.e. the same image can produce two slightly
  30. different GIF files depending on how the GIF encoding is done.
  31. So, when you compress and decompress you may get a GIF file that is
  32. not byte for byte identical to the original, but the image should be
  33. preserved exactly. You can verify that the image does not change at
  34. all by converting the two files to TIFF or PBM formats and comparing.
