  12. I started reading this group about a week ago, gathering information to 
  13. select BBS software for a friend's organization.  I started reading the
  14. "Searchlight" thread, and learned the following four important facts:

  16. 1) Many people love Searchlight.
  17. 2) Many people hate Searchlight.
  18. 3) It's not okay to punch DD disks to make HD disks.
  19. 4) It is so.
  20.  
  21. Okay, granted that many of the subscribers to this group are 12 year olds who 
  22. don't know any better - and who will probably react to this posting by
  23. cracking my system (don't bother, an 8 year old could do it) - nonetheless,
  24. I would ask the older folks to step in with some data about this (or any
  25. other) BBS software.  What specific features are unique?  What will it do?
  26. What important features is the software missing?  Does the author or company
  27. answer the phone, and speak a recognizable language?  Which language?  Are
  28. there regular upgrades?  What problems have there been with past upgrades?
  29. Can the program share data or setup files with anything else?  And so on;
  30. functional, comparative questions.  Statements like "it stinks" or "it is
  31. a blessing from God" are useless.  Testimonials are useless.  "It is better
  32. than" is a description of you, and not of the rest of the world.

  34. Just Give Me The Facts.  Leave the opinions in their respective orifices.
