  35. Recent advances in microelectronic technologies have enabled new
  36. architectures and applications requiring highly integrated or
  37. large-scale systems.  Papers are invited describing original research
  38. addressing issues in building integrated systems "from the chips up."
  39. This includes a wide range of interrelated disciplines, including
  40. basic technology, circuits and devices, VLSI architectures, design
  41. automation and applications.

  43. Although the SIS conference is the 15th in a series that has been held
  44. at Caltech, MIT, UNC Chapel Hill, Stanford, UC Santa Cruz, and Brown,
  45. it now seeks greater emphasis on systems issues in the design and
  46. construction of large-scale microelectronic systems.  Papers are
  47. solicited in the following and related areas:
  48.  
  49.   Systems Issues: System partitioning and integration, interfaces,
  50.     networks and interconnect technology, I/O and secondary
  51.     storage, communications systems, clock distribution, 
  52.     asynchronous systems, packaging, MCMs.
  53.   VLSI Architectures:  Highly parallel architectures, special-purpose
  54.     VLSI chips and systems, novel small-scale systems, programmable
  55.     structures and FPGAs, fault tolerance.
  56.   Circuits and Devices:  New storage technologies, innovative circuit
  57.     design, wafer-scale systems, low-power systems.
  58.   New Technologies:  New storage technologies, packaging, optical computing.
  59.   Design Automation:  Circuit and system synthesis, architectural
  60.     design support, hardware/software co-design, analysis and
  61.     simulation, novel design methodologies.
