- Thanks to those taking the time & effort to reply and supply information.

- Based upon that information and a call to SAS Institute, here's the scoop:

- SAS/CMS 6.07 has the same linked support 6.06 had (has); i.e. only
- able to handle linked SAS-internal format files created using the V5 engine.

- SAS/SHARE, however, will access V6 files in a linked disk situation.

- So a simple list of options for others facing this are:

- 1) don't do it in CMS - use MVS
- 2) use SAS/MVS to produce an output view which is either v5 format or
- a flat dataset.
- 3) buy SAS/SHARE.
