  25. I spent a good deal of last week taking pot shots at the LISTSERVer until
  26. I got it right, so.... (maestro, a little music please...)

  28. TSNEWS-L is SAS Inst.'s first foray into net interaction with users.
  29. It is a means of distributing technical news to users who so desire.
  30. Requests should be mailed to LISTSERV @ VM.SAS.COM.

  32. Your first submission to this listserver should be your subscription
  33. request:

  37. Now here's the rub.  For many lists (including SAS-L) that is all you
  38. need to do to start receiving messages.  TSNEWS-L uses AFD (automatic
  39. file distribution) requests.  This is because technical news will vary
  40. according to the platform, and why would a VAX site care about CMS
  41. technical updates.  So after you receive a subscription conformation
  42. from the listserver, you will need to set up an AFD password and should
  43. also get an index of what is available.  So, your next message will be:

  45. PW ADD xxxxx
  46. Index TSNEWS-L
  47.  
  48. This will give you an AFD password of xxxxx (give yourself something
  49. appropriate there).  You should get two mail messages back, one saying
  50. that your password has been set, and one with an index of the TSNEWS
  51. files.  Your subscription request will be the wildcard file areas that
  52. are of interest to you.  My request looked like:

  55. AFD ADD CMS* PALERT PW=xxxxx
  56. AFD ADD MVS* PALERT PW=xxxxx

  60. The filetype ANNOUNCE gives you technical announcements.  The filetype
  61. PALERT is for problem alert letters.  You must give the first 3 letters
  62. of the type of PALERT you want; you cannot request * PALERT.  You will
  63. receive a single mail message confirming your AFD requests.
