  12. Jerry Oglesby, conference chair, asked that I pass along the
  13. following information.  I'm not including it to start the SUGI
  14. schedule discussion anew!  Rather than rehash the pros and cons of
  15. the schedule, I suggest we wait and see how it works out.  These
  16. changes were necessitated by circumstances beyond SUGI's control.  If
  17. you have comments, please send them to me privately, and I'll see
  18. that Jerry gets them.

  20. Due to space considerations, The NYC conference will be split between
  21. two hotels directly across the street from each other.  In order to
  22. accommodate folks who need to go back and forth between papers,
  23. papers will start on either the half hour or the hour, and will
  24. either be 20 or 50 minutes long.  10 minutes was determined to be a
  25. reasonable amount of time to allow given the physical layout, etc.

  36. If an invited paper started at 8:00, it would end at 8:50; if
  37. starting at 8:30, it would end at 9:20, etc.  Schedules for Tutorials
  38. and Online Demos and Hands on Workshops will be adjusted to conform
  39. to the new schedule.

  41. Obviously, this will reduce the number of papers which can be
  42. accommodated- at a time when we expect a very large attendance.  With
  43. limited space, it may be necessary to limit the conference
  44. registrations. After years of theoretical discussions of having a
  45. schedule based on 30 minute time blocks, I guess we'll find out in
  46. actuality (but contributed papers will still be 20 minutes long).
