  24.    GENERAL INFORMATION:
  25.    This list has been established as an international electronic forum
  26.    for anyone using or interested in using the bibliographic textbase
  27.    software program PRO-CITE and its companion BIBLIO-LINK programs
  28.    published by Personal Bibliographic Software.  These software
  29.    programs provide the means to automate a wide variety of scholarly
  30.    tasks related to the retrieval, organization, and use of
  31.    bibliographic data.  They operate on both MS-DOS and Macintosh
  32.    platforms.  With the much enhanced version 2.0 of Pro-Cite now
  33.    available for both systems, it seemed like a good time to establish a
  34.    Bitnet discussion group, whose existence could facilitate the rapid
  35.    sharing of concerns, interests, problems and solutions among members
  36.    at all levels of use.

  38.    The owner of this list is Mark T. Day, Associate Librarian in the
  39.    Indiana University Reference Department and Coordinator of its newly
  40.    created Library Electronic Text Resource Service.  I began using
  41.    Pro-Cite and Biblio-Links while working at the Indiana Cooperative
  42.    Library Services Authority from 1988-1990 as their Library
  43.    Microcomputer Specialist and have felt for some time that an
  44.    electronic discussion group, modelled after the several similar
  45.    groups that already exist for other library and scholarly oriented
  46.    software products, would be a very useful forum for advancing
  47.    communication among those of us who work heavily with bibliographic
  48.    data.

  50.    For the list to be successful in serving the needs of its members,
  51.    however, those members must be active contributors to the discussion.
  52.    Currently the list operates in a non-moderated mode, in which all
  53.    messages sent to the list automatically will be posted to all other
  54.    members.  Answers to questions sent out over the list will go to all
  55.    members IF YOU POST YOUR ANSWER TO THE LIST, but will only go to the
  56.    person who sent the original message if YOU REPLY TO THE ORIGINAL
  57.    MESSAGE (more on the details of how to send and receive messages,
  58.    obtain archived copies of previous correspondence, etc, below).  So
  59.    IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR INFORMATION about some aspect of a PBS
  60.    product, SUBSCRIBE NOW AND JOIN THE DISCUSSION.

  90.    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  91.    Indiana University Computing Services provides the computer space and
  92.    software to support BITNET lists on its IUBVM node as a service to
  93.    the research oriented needs of IU faculty, staff, and graduate
  94.    students.  The Indiana University Libraries supports the
  95.    administration of electronic discussion lists as a professional
  96.    activity of its faculty.  However, neither of these organizations
  97.    verify the accuracy of submitted messages or endorse the opinions
  98.    expressed by authors of messages.  The list owner will attempt to
  99.    monitor this particular list and help keep it focused on problems
  100.    related to personal bibliographic software issues, but authors of
  101.    PRO-CITE messages are considered to be solely responsible for their
  102.    own comments.

  104.    Since this is a new list, with 88 subscribers as of July 26, 1992,
  105.    there is no way to tell how many messages you are likely to receive,
  106.    but similar lists for micro based software vary greatly from no
  107.    messages in some weeks to several per day at other times.  As
  108.    messages start to be received they will be automatically archived on
  109.    a monthly basis and can be retrieved as necessary with standard
  110.    listserv retrieval and search commands:

  112.    1) You will be able to obtain a list of available archive files
  113.       by sending an INDEX PRO-CITE command to LISTSERV@IUBVM.
  114.    2) Such files can be retrieved by issuing a GET PRO-CITE LOGYYMM command,
  115.       where "YY" stands for the year and "MM" stands for the month.
  116.    3) If you are curious about who your fellow subscribers to this list are,
  117.       send the message REVIEW PRO-CITE to LISTSERV@IUBVM.
