  16. I am doing a study of graduate and professional training and
  17. am looking for some "horror stories" to illustrate the kind
  18. of unfair treatment that students sometimes experience in
  19. university departments.

  21. Do you know of a student who...

  23. ...has been treated arbitrarily or unfairly on the PhD
  24. qualifying examination?
  25.  
  26. ...has been forced out of graduate or professional school?
  27.  
  28. ...has suffered stress-related illness (physical or mental
  29. breakdown)?
  30.  
  31. Students who have had any of these experiences would often
  32. like to tell their stories, but they rarely encounter
  33. knowledgeable listeners who are sympathetic.  I'd like to
  34. talk to individuals who suspect they may not have been
  35. treated fairly, but I have no way of finding them.  Can you
  36. give me a lead?
