- Having read some of the postings about problems with 5.1.x,
- specifically about functions which worked in previous versions
- and no longer seem operative, one must wonder about the
- enhancement ballot process.
-
- Specifically...should the enhancement ballot also contain those
- functions which NOTIS users do not want to see DISCONTINUED?
-
- Seems like every recent enhancement has a down side, in that
- a new bit of functionality in one area decreases the functionality
- in another.
-
- Kind of brings to mind the story about the guy who was having
- trouble with his key in the ignition...so he went to the dealer
- and said "I want my car modified so that I do not need the
- key to start it". The dealer said "No problem, we can do that"
- and when the guy picked up his car, he found the ignition switch
- replaced with a toggle switch. Not exactly the solution he had
- in mind.
-
- Is there a way that more feedback can be given so that there is
- a 'cost' attached to an enhancement if applicable?
-
- That way folks will avoid getting what they asked for only to
- find out that it is not what they wanted.
-
- Please do not interpret this as a flame directed toward NSI.
- For every gain, there is usually a loss somewhere else. It would
- just be a real help when considering enhancements to know the
- down side of those which we may request...and perhaps give an
- opportunity to do some kind of cost/benefit analysis before
- the enhacement is implemented.
-
- Just some late-night ramblings...
