- Nearly all the local drug reps participate in a lunch-time program
- we've had bi-weekly for three years. This program began as a joint project
- of the IAIMS group and the Dept. of Medicine. We used a
- straightforward clinicopathology conference (led by the chief medical
- resident or dir. of the residency program and a subspecialist) as an
- opportunity to introduce (and evaluate) such tools as DxPlain, QMR and
- Iliad as well as the literature. We thought we needed a lure of some
- sort for the first conference so we asked a drug rep to pay for pizza
- and beverages for a projected 30 participants. Seventy residents,
- students and faculty showed up and have sustained that avg.
- ever since. One drug company offered to pay for lunch for the whole
- year. Instead, we sent a note to all the local reps asking them if
- they wanted to participate -- all did -- so they divide the year up
- equally. They get 1 minute at the opening of the session to advert.; they can
- pass out stuff; and, they pay the pizza guy directly. The attendees
- find the conferences instructive and a pleasant break.
