  18. No, but they were librarians.  They understood the needs of a library and
  19. the philosophies of the profession.  I'm not saying that librarians are the
  20. only ones who have this knowledge and understanding, but I would be
  21. inclined to believe that a librarian would be better able to defend the
  22. needs of the library come budget time than someone who has never worked in
  23. a library.

  32. Are we so pathetic a profession that we need a "respected scholar" from
  33. another field to "lend dignity and respect to the profession by their
  34. acceptance of the title"?! Is a "hack administrator" such a bad thing if
  35. he/she can GET THE JOB DONE? I've seen what happens with political
  36. appointments of people who don't even have the time of day.

  38. We're not going to gain respect by getting respected people to accept our
  39. title, we have to get it for ourselves.
