- When I was at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the early eighties, the
- Documents Librarian got permission to dump older issues of Congressional Record
- (that were also available in microform) to acquire aditional space in the
- documents stacks. A clerical staff member alerted the History Department about
- the CRs in the dumpster behind the library, and students and faculty had their
- pictures in the school newspaper the following week retrieving the discarded
- items and hauling them to a room up in the department's office area. More than
- a year later the Dean of Libraries resigned his title in an unrelated matter
- and was succeeded temporarily by a former Chair of the History Department. The
- documents librarian was long gone to a more prestigious university. Some
- months after taking over, the acting Dean announced the impending return of the
- CRs to the stacks, and when that finally occurred, more than one and half years
- after the initial event, staff discovered that the vacated shelves were still
- empty and the former residents were put back where they had been without
- requiring a major shift.
