- Subject: Shelf labels for Current Periodicals Current Newspaper
- collections
- Lines: 34

- At Syracuse University's E.S. Bird Library, our Current Periodicals
- are shelved separately from the bound ones and arranged alpha. These
- Current Periodicals are housed with Current Newspapers in the
- Reserves unit (Reserve materials are shelved in a separate area behind
- the Reserves service desk). We are in the process of rearranging the
- shelving in the Current Periodcals and Newspaper area to allow for
- more seating and better security. I have a few questions, which can be
- sent to me directly, or I can summarize for the LIST if other are
- interested:
-
- 1. What type of label holders do you use to identify the Periodicals
- on the shelves? How do you accomodate for title changes? Currently,
- we use a labelmaker that produces plastic adhesive labels, but these
- aren't aesthetically pleasing, and some are difficult to remove.
-
- 2. How are your currnet Newspapers arranged on the shelves? We aquired this
- collection some months ago, and despite staff maintaining it several
- times a day, the shelves are still disaster areas! We keep local, high
- use neswpapaers as with some high use periodicals behind the Reserves
- Desk, but the majority of them are on the open stacks in the Unit, arranged
- alpha by title and are kept til the microfilm is produced or discarded
- after a certain date.
-
- Sorry for the typos. Thanks in advance for the information!
