  11. i'm entering this thread far too late to be able to say who said what.....

  13. my advice to m.m. murushi would be to read wittgenstein's "blue book". i've
  14. not read it myself but some years ago i read a quote from it : "the meaning
  15. of a word is the meaning given to it by society". i'm sure old ludwig would
  16. extend this to spelling and pronunciation. ever since then i've stopped 
  17. sneering at people who talk of "prestigious cars" or "nice days"
  18.  
  19. besides think of all the ink those efficient americans have saved by using
  20. "-or" instead of "-our".
