- Have a Sun IPC with a clobbered internal hard disk and need to boot
- the think diskless in order to get some software back into it. We
- have several other Sun SPARC systems (IPC, II's, etc), and want to
- make one of them available for a diskless boot of this poor IPC
- over the ethernet. How do I set up one of these running machines
- to do this? It looks like as if one file to set up is '/etc/bootparams'
- but my concern is that if I export the root file system of one of
- my working Suns to the one that needs to be booted diskless, that
- this may not be a good idea as the Sun being booted diskless may
- decide to overwrite partitions on the server Sun. Do I need to
- make a copy of the root partition and its directories to another
- area and export this via /etc/bootparams? I don't want to set
- this up in any kind of permanent way, so don't need anything fancy,
- just need to boot this Sun IPC with the clobbered hard disk so I
- can re-newfs it and re-install SunOS.
-
- Thanks.
