  10. Fat Lip Readers' Theatre just passed out some flyers for what they
  11. describe as their first performance with a new generation of players.

  13. The performance date given is August 1, Saturday night at 8pm, at
  14. Laney College in Oakland right next door to the Lake Merritt BART station.

  28. The FLiRT (my own acronym for them) has had a place in my heart since
  29. the first contact I had with the fat-positive faction. They have an
  30. expert way of putting their experiences to words: the tears, the anger,
  31. the rising up, the joy, the beauty - which struck deep into my soul the
  32. first time I heard them. For myself, it was like getting a whole intensive
  33. education about what I was getting myself into, in the course of a couple of
  34. hours (after which I stumbled out mentally exhausted, but with a feeling that
  35. I was at least starting to get the picture on a lot of questions which had
  36. piled up in my mind during the teen years). The fat people I know who are
  37. loyal fans tell me it is a wonderful affirmation that they are not alone
  38. with the feelings, the bad ones or the good ones, and that every once in
  39. a while even a veteran of the wars needs to hear the words of revolution
  40. that got them out in the trenches in the first place.
