  18. You have the wrong line of reasoning there.  The assumption that the
  19. government shouldn't be concerned about people's bodies leads directly to
  20. the conclusion that welfare should be junked completely.

  22. Which would be out of line.  We all live in socialist countries, where
  23. socialist thought is so all-pervasive that nobody would ever _dream_ of
  24. eliminating welfare, except for a few radical Libertarians and such who are
  25. light years away from having any power.

  27. No, the argument that the government shouldn't be coercing people is naive.
  28. What the hell do you think our governments are for, besides coercing
  29. people?  That is their primal function.  It's how they came into power, and
  30. how they keep it.  They do nothing else.  And, notwithstanding the arguments
  31. of anarchists, we really are better off with them than we would be without
  32. them.

  34. There are still good reasons to oppose the drug testing, though.  A new
  35. government bureaucracy would have to be created to maintain it.  It would
  36. waste money on expensive drug tests.  It would create opportunities for
  37. corruption.
