- My technique varies on the size of the area I am filling:
-
- Large areas, I use a two-part putty (I personally use Verlinden Putty, but a
- rose is a rose is a rose...). I handle and shape it wet. I find that it really
- is NOT that easy to sand and shape once dried, so I am very careful about
- getting it right before letting it dry.
-
- Smaller areas, I use either Dr. Microtools red putty, 3M blue, Squadron green,
- or Squadron white, whichever is handiest. They have different drying times and
- degrees of shrinkage, which is why I don't just pick one. Red putty dries
- fastest and shrinks the most. I'm not sure which takes longer to dry-- blue or
- green, but they both are close in the shrinkage department. White is kind of
- in-between. I also have been known to thin down green putty with Testor's
- liquid cement. It bonds to the plastic better, but shrinks more.
