  36. Well, p. 8 of _Magick_ includes:
  37. "Now there is a traditional correspondence, which modern experiment has shown
  38. to be fairly reliable.  There is a *certain natural connexion* between certain
  39. letters, words, numbers, gestures, shapes, perfumes, and so on..."  [emphasis
  40. mine]
  41. p. 9:
  42. "Now the conceptions of Magick are themselves profoundly mathematical.  The
  43. whole basis of our theory is the Qabalah, which corresponds to mathematics and
  44. geometry.  The method of operation in Magic is based on this, very much the 
  45. same way as the laws of mechanics are based on mathematics."
  46. p. 375:
  47. "It is immaterial whether they [the Sephiroth, etc.] exist or not.  By doing
  48. certain things certain results follow..."
  49. It is obvious from the last quote (I obtained the quotes by opening the book 
  50. at random) taht Crowley doesn't claim that they are necessarily real, so my 
  51. phrasing is off, but he does claim that the corresponces work no matter what.
  52. So, in Crowley's opinion, the Kabbalah is not necessarily real, but it is
  53. automatic.  IMO, it only works if you already are programmed with it.  I hope
  54. this clarifies my intention.
