- Welcome to irc.santafe.edu!
-
- Because people have been abusing this service, and the administration at
- the Santa Fe Institute has been receiving complaints, there is now a
- fixed maximum number of connections allowed as well as required
- registration. In order to use this service, it is necessary to register
- with a valid E-Mail address. (More information will follow).
-
- looking at your log (someone really likes those control G's) the host name
- of the offending bot changes from laguna.santafe.edu to santafe.santafe.edu
- part way through. (then to sanjaun.santafe.edu)
- Also scott (scott@sfi.santafe.edu) joins part way through and leaves quickly
- (even if he has nothing to do with these bots, surely it is his job to do
- something about them k-lineing springs to mind!!)
-
- The syntax of the ban command is MODE <channel> +b <nick>!<user>@<host>
- It took quite a time for someone to get the correct syntax.
- Then what the person comes back from another site apple-gunkies.gnu.irc.mit.edu
- now people realise what is happening.
- Then from rever.nmsu.edu (how many machines does this twit have accounts on,
- and are they legit?)
- They then start appearing again from santafe.santafe.edu., didn't see anyone
- remove the ban, so either something has been hacked, or there is still
- a 2.6 server out there somewhere which allows anyone to connect!
-
-
- This sort of thing does not do the IRC net much good, flooding will reduce the
- performance for ALL users.
- IMHO any admin who allows this (or in fact causes it) should cease to be an
- admin.
-
- Conclusion someone should be booted off IRC, preferably for good!
