- My apologies to all Americans, who are not IrcOp for EGO reasons and are not
- IrcAdmins for EGO reasons and felt that I have addressed my flame to
- them! This is NOT what I wanted!
-
- In article <1992Jul22.203330.22715@rat.csc.calpoly.edu>, asamonte@polyslo.csc.calpoly.edu (Just some loser...) writes:
- |> How sad...how really sad. I've been reading both sides of

- |> or 'My dad can beat up your dad'.
-
- STOP! This is not true!
- I didn't flame that my country is better than yours, not even all countries
- are better than US.
-
- What I said was (and what should become clear, if you read my flame carefully):
- 1) That the biggest contingent of IRC Servers is from US
- 2) That most of them are there for EGO reasons (and so not really needed)
- 3) That most of the Ops in US are Ops for EGO reasons (and so not really needed)!
- 4) That most of the admins of THOSE servers and THOSE Ops think that US is
- the best ... rules the world and this stuff.
- 5) That most of THEM should consult a psychiater!
-
- 1), 2) and 3) I think are facts.
- 4) is my theory (which I get from the actions and /WALLOPS (from the time we
- has them))
- 5) I wrote this, 'cause I was really angry and it was mainly meant to one
- person! (But I still think someone who thinks that his country rules the
- world should consult a psychater - no matter what country he is from)
-
- I did NOT say:
- 1) ALL americans are morons/insane
- 2) my country is better than yours
-
- I too, don't think there are any problems with being proud of my country,
- but that doesn't mean that I close my eyes to all the things that are
- bad (and every country has things that are good and things that are bad)
-
-
- Some comments to explain my anger:
- Mostly speaking for the situation in Germany (even it is/may be true for some
- other countries, too)
-
- We are not so lucky to have T1 links. The IRC community (or mostly the Admins)
- have to struggle and fight to not get the IRC ports because of the amount of
- traffic.
- We try to keep the number of servers down, try to set up bandwidth-saving
- links and try to get a limited number of reasonable Ops.
-
- These actions do not only help us, but the whole IRCnet, as less server
- information is spread around, there is less /KILLing and /WALLOPing. All these
- saves net-bandwidth, not only for us, but for the whole IRCnet.
- This also leads to a more mature relation with resources.
-
- As this situation applies in general for all of the Euopean countries,
- the EBIC (European Board of IRC Coordinators) has been formed with the
- intention to reduce unnecessary traffic, get better connectivity and some
- rules for adding new servers.
- However this rules are not binding and may be overridden by each country.
- (which does not happen - at least now).
-
- I can understand that those from US with a bunch of T1 links and no such
- problems don't want rules and cry "IRC is an anarchy" and "IRC is for FUN",
- but that doesn't mean that I have to like it.
- There had been a lot of backbone plans for the US, but none of them ever
- worked! Did you ever ask yourself why?
-
- |> So where do we go from here? Is any specific part of the US more moronic
- |> than the others? What about Europe? Where do the really insane people
- |> live there?
-
- As I said, I didn't have any generalizations in mind.
- And for the insane topic:
-
- Don't you think that someone, who is down to hell, 'cause that bitch of
- a girl he knew from IRC and he was so in love with left him, who on the
- other day writes "IRC is fun" and on the next day says "I have a new love
- and it's serious this time", who himself says he's Op only for being Op
- and because it's cool.
- Don't you think that someone like him really has some problems, and isn't
- too mature?
- (or maybe he's simply too young. And in this case I don't think he should
- have as much responsibility as I think an Op has (or at least should have).
-
-
- That's it!
- Hope it helped to make some things clearer!
- And I hope even more it helps IRCnet!
