- One of our greatest Gopher needs is the ability to cross-reference
- documents. For example, we have a document about fixing TN3270 problems
- (located in a "computer problems" directory) that we might want to
- cross-reference to a document on setting up TN3270 (located in a "computer
- installations" directory), and other cross-reference to a document
- describing unique services available using TN3270 (located in a "computer
- services" directory). It seems to me that a really good way of doing this
- would be through HyperText links.
-
- The argument could be made that if the data was stored in the most
- logical hierarchal structure, it would be easy to find and not need to be
- cross-referenced. Unfortunatly, not all people think the same way, and
- what is a logical structure to one, may not be to another. By setting up a
- cross-referenceing system, the documents can be seperatly stored in the
- most logical hierarcical structure, yet still be linked.
-
- To my knowledge this cross-referenceing ability does not exist yet in
- Gopher. Has anyone tried to set a standard for document-to-document
- linking?
