  24. Around here, you have the right to say anything you want...providing
  25. you give people the *choice* of hearing it or not. To my mind, that
  26. means that users can say anything they please on private lists and in
  27. appropriate groups, but anything posted on the public bulletin areas,
  28. in the main msg areas, on X-terminals, *and in finger* must be roughly
  29. equivalent to PG-13.

  31. "finger" is the public directory service provided by this site. Users
  32. should be able to use finger without getting any sort of shock. On my
  33. site, I would ask you to replace that quote with a pointer to a
  34. publicly readable file, if you want to distribute a potentially
  35. offensive message. That way, you are free to say whatever you like,
  36. and users are free to CHOOSE to hear it or not.
  37.   Freedom of speech does not equal guaranteed access to any means of 
  38. communication at any time. It is the same thing with Usenet news. Post
  39. pornography on alt.sex.stories; keep the talk clean in misc.kids and
  40. comp.unix.programmer.
