- Almost. My Pioneer current runs off the Future Domain controller
- contained in the optional adapter/cable/software kit. This remains true
- only because I've not yet been able to move the Pioneer to the 1542A.
-
- Adaptec's software does not support the Pioneer. Period. The
- Adaptec CD-ROM software package will access the first CD-ROM using the
- generic data-only driver, which means the basic connection and command
- set works OK. However, Adaptec's CD-ROM software doesn't know how to
- change disks. Further, I got a cryptic comment from an Adaptec person
- (via the Adaptec BBS) that the controller contains (low, in my opinion)
- limits on the number of devices/subdevices it can support. (I can't
- quote the exact comment because that file is at home.)
-
- Yesterday I ordered CORELSCSI, a software-only package. Corel (800
- 836 7274 or 613 728 8200) claims their software will support the
- Pioneer DRM-600 operating off an Adaptec 1542A, as well as other SCSI
- devices. The package goes for under $100 and supports _EVERYTHING_ you
- can hang off a SCSI bus: QIC tape drives, DAT tape drives, CD-ROMs,
- magnetic disks, WORMs, removable drives, Floptical drives,
- magnetoptical drives. The package includes tape backup software,
- Novell jukebox drivers, CD-Audio support for MS Windows, etc. I'll
- find out next week.
-
- If you want to know about my success/failure, email me in 10 days or
- so.
