- Having reviewed this CD-ROM earlier, I found it to be useful and a very
- good value. I do not, however, use a Mac. There are some uncompressed
- file converters in the ARCers subdirectory of the disc, like Stuffit,
- etc.
-
- In all fairness, the problems with getting stuff into a Mac have more
- to do with the way the Mac is setup than anything else. The disc is
- a 9660 standard, so that isn't the problem. In Apple's desire to be
- proprietary, they have made getting stuff into their machines quite
- convoluted, especially from other types of machines.
-
- The GARBO CD-ROM is nothing more than a snapshot of the GARBO archives
- at the University of Vaasa, Finland. The vendors (in this case Walnut
- Creek CD-ROM) just put the archives in toto on disc at a *very*
- reasonable price.
-
- If Walnut Creek had to decompress all that data on the disc, first of
- all, you would never fit both the IBM and Mac archives on it. Secondly,
- they would have to charge sigificantly more to justify the extra work.
- And finally, the stuff on the disc would not be nearly as current.
-
- While I can understand your frustration, I think that your arrows should
- be directed towards Cupertino and not Walnut Creek!
