  15. ANCHODD: A NATIONAL COMPUTER NETWORK FOR THE EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION
  16. BETWEEN DRUG SCIENTISTS.

  18. This electronic clearinghouse has been established to provide a means for
  19. rapid communication between scientists working in the drug sciences, with
  20. a
  21. view to sharing skills and resources and identifying potential research
  22. collaborators.  ANCHODD (Australian National Clearinghouse on Drug
  23. Development) functions in principle like an announcement at a scientific
  24. meeting, except that the audience are the recipients of electronic mail
  25. messages and their number and geographical dispersal is virtually
  26. unlimited.

  28. ANCHODD is an initiative of the CENTRE FOR PHARMACOLOGY, MEDICINAL
  29. CHEMISTRY AND TOXICOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TASMANIA.   The initial
  30. focus
  31. was on the complimentary fields of medicinal chemistry and pharmacology
  32. testing where there is an obvious need for collaboration between those who
  33. synthesize or isolate potential new drugs, and those who can characterise
  34. a
  35. drug's pharmacological properties.  However, applications of ANCHODD are
  36. not limited to this situation, and ANCHODD can be used wherever drug
  37. scientists need to establish rapid contact with others who are potential
  38. suppliers of goods or services. Three Australian scientific societies have
  39. supported ANCHODD: The Royal Australian Chemical Institute, RACI (Division
  40. of Medicinal and Agricultural Chemistry); The Australasian Society of
  41. Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists, ASCEPT; and
  42. The Australasian Pharmaceutical Sciences Association, APSA.

  45. ANCHODD uses the Australian Academic and Research Network (AARNet) a new
  46. high-speed computer network , which was established by Australian
  47. Universities to facilitate just this sort of interaction amongst the
  48. academic and research community.  Pharmaceutical companies can become
  49. affiliate members of AARNet through links with a sponsoring University or
  50. CSIRO Division.

  52. ANCHODD is an electronic mail address at the University of Tasmania.  Any
  53. message sent to ANCHODD is automatically broadcast to all addresses on its
