- I have a '386 with an internal Zoom V32bis faxmodem and Telix 3.15.
- My problem is this. I set the DCE speed (in Telix) to 57.2 Kbps and
- connect to a BBS. I can download at about 1700 cps, but uploads
- involve timeouts and retransmissions, and drops in packet size, etc.
- until I get about 100 cps throughput :^(. Setting the DCE speed to
- 19,200 gives me about 240 cps throughput on uploads, and doesn't
- affect downloads, so I assume this "feature" has to do with the
- mismatch between DCE and DTE speeds of the modem. Throughput also
- varies with the particular BBS I conenct to, so I assume there are
- Zmodem implementations that do a better or worse job of dealing with
- this.
-
- My question is, what can I do to get uploads to work faster? One
- obvious thing would be to set the DCE speed lower than the DTE speed
- (e.g. 9600 bps), but I'd rather not throttle my download speed. Is it a
- feature of the zmodem that comes with Telix? Is there a better package
- I can get reasonably cheap?
